March is here, which means one thing for food lovers in the UK—it’s British Pie Week!
A time to celebrate all things pastry, flaky, and delicious. But while we humans are indulging in steak and ale, chicken and mushroom, or a classic pork pie, what about our four-legged friends?
Well, we’ve got you covered! This year, why not treat your pup to their very own dog-friendly Shepherd’s Pie? Packed with tail-waggingly tasty and healthy ingredients, this recipe will have your furry companion licking their bowl clean ( a healthier but still as tasty version of human pastry pies).
Why a Dog-Friendly Shepherd’s Pie?
Our dogs shouldn’t eat too much pastry, (the casing to a traditional pie), due to the hight fat content. Not only can it increase your pups weight it can also upset gentle delicate tummies. So we’ve found a dog friendly alternative – with no pastry!
Traditional Shepherd’s Pie is a British classic, loved by millions, but it’s not always pup-appropriate.
Onions, rich gravies, and excessive seasoning can be harmful to dogs. Our version, however, is made with wholesome, dog-safe ingredients that are gentle on tummies and full of nutrients.

- 500g lean minced lamb (or turkey for a lighter option)
- 1 small carrot, finely chopped
- 50g peas (fresh or frozen)
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 200ml low-sodium beef or chicken broth
- For the topping:

- Add the chopped carrot and peas, stirring well.
- Pour in the broth and let it simmer for 10 minutes until slightly reduced.
